Colour conundrum.

31 08 2007

Hmmm. It seems Jeremy and I agree on almost every aspect of all things baby…
EXCEPT colours.

So we enlist your help oh faithful family and friends. Not that we plan on purchasing this just yet, but because we are good planner aheaders, which colour would you rather see you grandchild/neice/nephew/cousin rocking aroudn town in?

Red: rocketruby.jpg           Green:      indie-bamboo-quarter_03.jpg

For the record, they are exactly the same in every detail except the colour and trim.

So…. please solve our domestic dispute, this is our confirmed stroller… but… well, we only need one.

Coral's Belly

Baby… you have made your mother very sick this past couple of days.  And no, I am not talking about the mixed martial arts choke hold that you put on Coral’s belly everyday… no, you gave her a wicked cold.  Something called Sinusitis.  It doesn’t even sound real, but let me share with you… it very much is.

Now I know what you’re thinking my unborn child… “what does it bother you, if Coral is sick?”

and I’ll forgive that thought because you have yet to be born and are still very much ignorant at this time… but when Mommy is sick young child, all people suffer.  She had an insanely stuffed nose and snot flying every which way!  it was quite a sight.  Not to mention that she couldn’t sleep through a night because she had sneezing fits.  Yikes indeed.  Yet one more thing for you to be sorry for, before you are even born.  Jeeze, I am starting to sound like a Catholic.

In the music department, you have witnessed many rock shows before you have even come into this world.  IN fact, some of the best shows I have been to in my life, Coral and I have seen together while she is pregnant with you.  Coral speaks of making you a scrap book with all the ticket stubs in it.  Fun, I like crafts.  This weekend we are off to Seattle for a weekend of excitement and music at the Bumbershoot Festival.  Thankfully (I guess) you weren’t born in the 80s, so this will be a sober one for us… thou, before you were even concieved, this was to be a drunkstacle… so that next “sorry” will be for me.

We’ve been listening to lots of music.  Some of records that we listen to while you are in Mommy’s belly include, Caribou – “Andorra,” Against Me! – “New Wave,” Rilo Kiley – “Under the Blacklights,” A Silver Mount Zion – “Horses in the Sky,” and Bright Eyes – “I’m Wide Awake It’s Morning.”  We wandered down to Ditch Records last week and did some CD shopping.  One of our favourite things to do together.  I’m sure we’ll be dragging you along on the adventures soon enough.  Learn to love it kid.

After our record shopping… there was a trip to see family at your Uncle Barry’s farm in Chemainus.  And on the Sunday we headed out to Mitchosen.  Another favourite thing to do.  Who knows… maybe you’ll grow up there!  if you’re lucky.  We tried to find the 20 million dollar mansion and achieved… well to to see the front gate at least.  There was also a gorgeous beach and we headed up to Pearson College.  Good times.

Well, I better go now… I need to feed your Mother and that in turn feeds you.  Blood test on Friday before we leave for Seattle.

Keep on grow’n.

Coral and Jeremy at Barry's Farm

Chillin’ by the snack table.

20 08 2007

We went to the Doctor on Thursday. The good news is I dont have HIV, Hep B OR syphillis. A relationship saver, Im sure.
The bad news is I havent gained ANY weight in six weeks… and I got  a littla talking to. So now its snacking between meals and just general eating at every occasion. The problem is, Im never really that hungry!
We went to Jeremy’s work BBQ yesterday and I made it my mission, tacky or not, to sit beside the table covered with platters of veggies, fruit and 7 layer dip. I ate until it litterally HURT to eat. SO there, take that baby. Lets see you get through all of that!

Speaking of the baby, when we listened to his/her heartbeat on the doppler there was this other louder noise which made my doctor start to laugh. She said “do you hear that? Thats your baby rolling around all over the place!”
What a little dancing queen we have!

Oh, and October 1st is the day of our BIG ultrasound. I am sad because it is late… and I am not one known for my patience attributes. But I will suffer through.
We should start taking bets on a boy or a girl.
Any takers?

13 weeks, Holy Moly.

I was told that taking pictures of your belly as you progress is one of the best memory makers for your pregnancy. I seem to have a bigger bump than most people at my current point in time. And its not cheesies! I like it though, I finally feel like I look pregnant, not just a lil bit chunky.  But seriously, I look more than three and a half months!!

Jeremy and I (as well as his brother CJ and his girlfriend Caitlin) went to the mainland for the weekend. Fireworks, Gay Pride Parades, Freeway accidents (not us!), and Cupcakes filled up our days, and now sadly we are back at home and back to reality. I wish weekends lasted forever!

A Girl Named Todd

3 08 2007

Naming our unborn child is huge.  No doubt about it.  Coral and I have already selected the names but I am not sure if it kosher to drop them before the child is born.I will say this, one thing that is getting tiring is people wanting us to name our child after them.

It seems to go with the territory.  No sooner have I just told someone that Corj and I will be procreating, then some joker says, “hey I’ve got a great name!  how about mine!”

To be honest, one time someone did that and it actually worked and for awhile our unborn child had the name.  We were sitting around at Coral’s Aunt and Uncle’s place in Lake Cowichan and her cousin said, “How about Todd?”

“Shit! Todd would be a great name!  for a girl…”

Whoa, Coral and I looked at each other, and then at manly Todd… then at each other and said, “Todd for a girl it is!”

We said that last part in unison while holding hands and a rainbow burst into a starshower above us.

and yes… for a wee bit, *if* we have a daughter… her name was going to have Todd in it.

I *think* that has since changed and actually… right now I am having trouble remembering our girl’s middle name… you’d need to ask Coral… but I better ask first, I don’t want to get in trouble.  I should remember this.

So I’ll need to be sly and somehow trick her into telling me.

It is a skill I have down pat.  When I meet someone that I *should* know… I start by dropping like a “bro” or “buddy” and buy-for-time until either someone else uses the name or in a moment of devine intervention it dawns on me.

So I’ll need to refer to our kid as “cutie,” or “little one” and then I’ll say something like, “… and won’t it be so funny when our child is all grown up and gets busted for like sleeping with a football team, or math teacher or something and we’re so MAD and we yell out her full name.”

Then Coral would say, “hahaha yeah, (something) (something) BAKER! stop being a little whore!”

and I’ll be, “yeah!  (something)!”

smooth.

The Night I Found Out

2 08 2007

Sometime back… the night of the Monster Truck Spectacular to be percise (June 15th)… I rolled up to the Casa La CorJ in the Zone’s bitch’n yellow Nissan Xterra to pick up my lovely girlfriend for a night of high flying motocross professionals and Gravedigger monster truck carnage.  As I pull the car up to the curb, I see that Coral is visibly upset.  She sits down and says… “I’m pregnant.”

… “and you’re crying?” I asked stunned.

“well, I wasn’t sure what you were gunna think.”

“I think its great, but you know what, I need you to put the tears away for a moment because, MONSTER TRUCKS!!!  WOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!”

I then crushed a beer can on my head and off we went to the Save-On Foods Memorial Centre.

We arrive at the Arena and head up to the Zone’s private box where I am hosting some contest winners.  The Zone knows how to operate so there is a giant TUB full of BEER.

I tuck in and toss one over to Corj.

“I don’t think I am supposed to drink,” she says to me.

I reply, “SWA?  Nonsense, you’re barely pregnant.”

“No, no I am pretty sure booze is a no go.”

I savage her with a volley of logic, “OK look, what were we going to do tonight?  Drink beer and watch monster trucks.  Now, *if* you were to say, have taken your little test, which by-the-way is only like, ninety-nine percent accurate, *if* you even did it right, now say… you took it tomorrow and did not know you were pregnant… would you drink?”

“Well yes, BUT I *DO* know I’m pregnant so… NO BEER!  Jesus… what kind of father are you going to be?  Our baby is not even born yet and your sneaking it booze.”

“Hey, free booze courtesy of Jimmy Pattison.”

Ok, so Coral was sober, I tipped a couple, we’re having a baby and the Monstrer trucks were a little dissapointing (the motocross was cool), but so educational.

*beep beep* NEW JEEP!

1 08 2007

Well… it seems we are officially growing up.
Friday afternoon Jeremy and I went and signed ourselves up for our very first ever (on both counts) joint bank account and credit cards. Yipes!
Then, Sunday afternoon, after a suprize bomb threat almost ruined our plans, we hoped on a ferry and spent the night at his parents house in Coquitlam.
We went out for some drinks (hot chocolate for me!) with some of Jeremy’s friends from high school and Matt and Kenny, then watched movies with Griffey.
Monday morning, and this is the exciting news, we signed the paperwork, and now officially own a 2007 Jeep Patriot. WOOP WOOP!
Well… we’re leasing it actually.
Turns out the car seat wouldnt properly fit in the back seat of the truck, so my mom bought it off of us and off we went.
Our new Jeep!

WOW.

I do feel quite litterally, years older today. So much more responsibility! But its so much fun to drive!!
